#5 – Ti-ing one on in the ‘Dacks
Take Route 4 (North) out of Troy, through Mechanicville, Schuylerville, Hudson Falls, Fort Ann and Whitehall. Stay on Rt. 4 and crossover into Vermont. In Fair Haven, Vt. take a left onto Route 22A (North). Pass through Benson, enjoying the tremendous views of the not-so Green Mountain State this time of the year. In Orwell, take a left onto Route 73 (West) to the eastern edge of the Lake Champlain, and the dock for the Ticonderoga Ferry. The Ferry runs from 7a-6p. Cost is $5 per vehicle, and they only take cash and checks (so your plastic is no good there!). Following the memorable Ferry ride back into NYS get on Route 74 (West). Take a left onto Route 9N (South) and partake in the incredible splendor of the Adirondacks. In Bolton Landing stop at Fredericks for their amazing Hoops, then stay on Rt. 9N (South) into Lake George. Hit Duffy’s (Amherst St.) for a quick one (or two) – and you’re on your own.
Note: The Ti Ferry runs until Oct. 30 – so take this ride while you still can!

#4 – Go West Young Man (and Woman)
Take Route 20 (West) out of Albany. Make a quick stop in Esperance at the Hillview Tavern (on Route 30, just off Rt. 2o) to “fuel-up” for the ride. Get back on Rt. 20 west, go through Sharon Springs to Springfield. Take a right on Route 80 (North) to Fort Plain. Take right onto Route 5S (East) to into Canajoharie. Take a right at the light to the flashing light. On Little Mohawk Street stop for a quick bite and beverage at Jim’s Irish Harbor Pub. Get back on Rt. 5S east and head to Rotterdam Junction. Hop on Route 890 to Route 7 (East) and head-on home.

#3 – Dam, we’re heading to Gilboa!
Out of Albany get on Route 32 (South). Stay on Rt. 32 through Greenville and Freehold and begin to enjoy the splendor of the Catskill Mountains. Take a right on Route 32A (West) and continue on through Tannersville and Hunter until Rt. 32A meets-up with Route 23. Stay on Rt. 23 (North) to Grand Gorge. Take a right onto Route 30 (North) to Route 990V (East), which will take you over the Schoharie Creek into Gilboa. A short ride down the road stop at either Clarks or Nick’s Waterfall House – two great choices. Backtrack on 990V (West) to Rt. 30 (North), past Mine Kill State Park, following the Schoharie Creek. Stay on Rt. 30, past Middleburgh and through Schoharie until you meet-up with I-88. Cruise on home with fantastic stories from a memorable day.

#2 – Three States in One Day
Begin in Troy on Route 66. Take 66 east to East Nassau. Take a left onto Rt. 20 (East) in New Lebanon. Take Route. 22 (South) to Route 102 (East) and cross-over into Massachusetts. Stay on Rt. 102 through Stockbridge, MA. and into Lee, MA., enjoying the amazing views of The Berkshires. In Lee, Rt. 102 becomes Route 20 (East). Take a right on Route 8 (South). Travel through Otis, Ma. and past Tolland State Forest. Stay on Rt. 8 (South) and crossover into Connecticut. Take a right onto Route 44 (East) in Winsted, CT.. Take Rt. 44 through North Canaan and Lakeville and cross back over into NYS. Take Route 22 (North) and begin to make your way home, with The Catskills as your inspiration. Take a left onto Route 203 (West) in Austerlitz and head into Chatham, where there are several great places to grab a bite/beverage – You’ve Earned It!

#1 – A Trojan Trip for a Taste of Jolly Ol’ England
Start on Route 2 in Troy. Take Route 2 (East) to Petersburg. Take a left onto Route 22 (North) and take it all the way until it ends. Take a left into Route 7 (West) and stop at the Man of Kent Tavern in Hoosick Falls, Upstate NY’s #1 English Pub and Restaurant. Grab a burger and a brew and then get back on Route 7 west and enjoy the amazing foliage of Tibbits State Forest and the beautiful views as you travel over the Tomhannock Reservoir as you make your way back to Troy.

The Adirondack Mountain Region provides some of the most picturesque, enjoyable and exciting day trips in the Northeast. Fortunately, I’ve done them all – and here are some of the best to take in August.
#5 – Baseball – Brew Pub Doubleheader
Start in Albany and take Rt.20 west to I88 west to Colliersville. Take Rt.28 north and stop at the Council Rock Brewery and enjoy a fantastic local brew and some great chicken tacos. Continue on Rt.28 north into Cooperstown, home of the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum. Catch some spectacular views of Otsego Lake and hop back on Rt.28 west. Take a left onto Rt.80 west and head to New Berlin. Take a right onto Rt.8 north and then a right onto Rt. 20 west, and cruise on home.

The Adirondack Mountain Region provides some of the most picturesque, enjoyable and exciting day trips in the Northeast. Fortunately, I’ve done them all – and here are some of the best to take in August.
#4 – Two Days Away – to Alexandria Bay – for a Pirate Day
From Albany take I90 west to Utica. Hop on Rt.12 north. Take a left onto Rt. 365 in Barneveld and stop at Van’s Tavern for an incredible burger that’s as big as the plate. Get back on Rt.12 and continue heading north, through Boonville, Lowville and into Watertown. Take Rt. 37 north to Theresa, and then Rt.26 north to Alexandria Bay.
This 2-day ride is great any time in the Summer/Fall, but August 12-21 are the famous Bill Johnson’s Pirates Days, a 10-day festival filled with Buccaneer fun and excitement for the entire family.
So, Maties this trip can very easily become more that just a 2-day adventure!

The Adirondack Mountain Region provides some of the most picturesque, enjoyable and exciting day trips in the Northeast. Fortunately, I’ve done them all – and here are some of the best to take in August.
#3 – Going Green for Some Amazing Hoopes
Start in Mechanicville and take Rt.4 north to Whitehall. Stay on Rt.4 and cross into Vermont. Take Rt.22A north to Orwell and then a left on Rt.73, which will take you to the historic Fort Ti Ferry. Following the ferry ride you’ll be back in NY. Take Rt.9N south, with beautiful Lake George on your left, and head to Bolton Landing. Stop at Frederick’s Restaurant for a bucket of their Hoopes chicken wings (they are THE BEST!). Continue south on 9N into Lake George, where anything can happen.

#2 – The Smart Way to Visit the Goddess of Wisdom
Starting in Saratoga, take Route 29 west to Route 30 north. Stay on Rt.30 thru Wells, Speculator and into Indian Lake. Take a right onto Rt.28 and a left onto 28N in North Creek. Stay on 28N into Minerva (named after the Roman goddess of wisdom and science) and stop at Sporty’s Iron Duke Saloon and Cabins for a Burger and a Brew. Hey, you can even spend the night!

The Adirondack Mountain region provides some of the most picturesque, enjoyable and exciting day trips in the Northeast. Fortunately, I’ve done them all – and here are some of the best to take in August.
#1 – A “Great” Way to get to and from Lake George
Starting in Saratoga, take Route 29 west. Take a right onto Fishhouse Rd and then a right onto South Shore Rd. Stop at Captain Naughty’s for some great food and fun. Continue north on South Shore Rd (Rt.7), a right onto North Shore Rd. (Hadley) and continue on to Rt. 9N (Lake Luzerne). Take 9N north to Lake George, where you’re on your own!
Optional return trip A
Backtrack 9N south to Lake Luzerne and take North Shore Rd. south. Stop at Melba Mae’s Riverview Inn in Hadley (tell Don and Linda we sent you). Continue south of North Shore Rd to Rt. 30 finishing the 78 mile loop around Great Sacandaga Lake. Take a left onto Rt.29 and head back to Saratoga, completing an amazing ride.
Optional return trip B
Backtrack 9N south to Lake Luzerne and take North Shore Rd. south. Take a left onto the Batchellerville Bridge and then a right onto South Shore Rd. for your return route to Rt.29. You won’t complete the lake loop, but the view from the bridge is worth it.
