The Adirondack Mountain region provides some of the most picturesque, enjoyable and exciting day trips in the Northeast. Fortunately, I’ve done them all – and here are some of the best to take in August.
#1 – A “Great” Way to get to and from Lake George
Starting in Saratoga, take Route 29 west. Take a right onto Fishhouse Rd and then a right onto South Shore Rd. Stop at Captain Naughty’s for some great food and fun. Continue north on South Shore Rd (Rt.7), a right onto North Shore Rd. (Hadley) and continue on to Rt. 9N (Lake Luzerne). Take 9N north to Lake George, where you’re on your own!
Optional return trip A
Backtrack 9N south to Lake Luzerne and take North Shore Rd. south. Stop at Melba Mae’s Riverview Inn in Hadley (tell Don and Linda we sent you). Continue south of North Shore Rd to Rt. 30 finishing the 78 mile loop around Great Sacandaga Lake. Take a left onto Rt.29 and head back to Saratoga, completing an amazing ride.
Optional return trip B
Backtrack 9N south to Lake Luzerne and take North Shore Rd. south. Take a left onto the Batchellerville Bridge and then a right onto South Shore Rd. for your return route to Rt.29. You won’t complete the lake loop, but the view from the bridge is worth it.
