Unlike cars (and other motorized vehicles), most motorcycles are AIR COOLED, so if the air temperature is incredibly hot your bike needs help to prevent it (and you) from overheating. Here are the Top 5 things you can do to help beat the heat and keep your bike on the road in hot/humid conditions:
5) Install an OIL COOLER
This device helps lower the engine oil temperature. It’s simple to install and is recommended for every air-cooled motorcycle, but especially if you regularly ride in stop-and-go traffic or in regions of the country where hot/humid weather conditions are typical.
4) Change your OIL and OIL FILTER now!
Since your oil is the only liquid in your engine, it not only needs to lubricate, but serve as a coolant. Old, dirty oil cannot do either – and the same for a worn-out filter.
3) Choose the PROPER OIL
We use and highly recommend Cenpeco 20/50. It helps your bike run 20-degrees cooler than other brands. Weight and viscosity are key in helping keep your engine running right
at maximum temperatures.
2) Install an ENGINE FAN
This device helps circulate air directly into the engine area. It may be hot air, but it’s better than the very little air that’s getting in there as you ride.
1) KEEP IT PARKED
It’s important to understand that there are days when it’s so hot/humid that it’s simply not smart or safe to ride. You are in danger of not only having your engine break-down, resulting in costly repairs (or blowing the engine entirely), but putting yourself in physical danger as well. Riders can suffer serious burns and permanent injuries to their bodies by making contact with an extremely hot bike.
RULE OF THUMB: If it’s too hot for you, it’s too hot to ride.
